Readings
The Four Walls (Article)- this paper by Mark Ragin, a psychiatrist at The Village in Long Beach, CA is a 'must read'.
Asylums: Essays on the Condition of the Social Situation of Mental Patients and Other Inmates (Paperback) is a 1961 collection of four essays written by sociologist Erving Goffman. Residents should read at least one of the essays in order to understand Goffman's concept of the "total institution"
Integrated Treatment for Dual Disorders: A Guide to Effective Practice (Paperback) - this text is the best in terms of it's thoroughness and practical information it contains. By far the best book on co-occurring issues. Every ACT team should, without a doubt, own a copy!

The Politics of Memory this film by Patricia Deegan is a powerful view of history from a different perspective. While it may have been intended for consumers every psychiatrist and psychiatric trainee should watch this powerful piece.
